Illustrations for other detective stories

The fact that Paget illustrated a number of other detective stories after having begun with Holmes may be a coincidence. Detective stories were very popular and he was a prolific illustrator. However, it seems likely that at least part of the reason he was chosen for these projects was so that the lesser known detectives could take advantage of a little of Holmes’ reflected glory.
