The Special Collections Centre boasts the largest map collection in a Canadian public library. The well used Map Collection consists of current and historical maps, atlases and gazetteers as well as books and periodicals covering many facets of cartography. Although international in scope, it is particularly strong in Canadian content, with an emphasis on Toronto and vicinity. Examples of the variety of materials in the Map Collection are street and road maps, topographical maps, fire insurance plans, ordnance survey maps, world, national and specialized atlases and nautical charts. Access to these materials is mostly through the library's on-line catalogue and card indexes and a selection of maps and atlases are available on the library's Digital Collections website.
