The Sherlock Holmes Phenomenon
Sherlock Holmes is often said to be the world’s most recognizable fictional character. The stories featuring the Great Detective and his friend Dr. John Watson have been almost continuously in print since A Study in Scarlet was first published in 1887, and there are also many translations that testify to their worldwide popularity. Shown here are a selection of early editions and translations as well as a sample of the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection’s extensive selection of “new” Sherlock Holmes stories in which other writers create their own adventures for Conan Doyle’s characters.
Many of these works can be read online through the Gutenberg project or other websites.
