TPL (TRL) PC-ON 66
Machell's Corners was the destination of Toronto's first train trip on May 16, 1853. A passenger of the time remarked, "It is an interesting thing to see these stations in the middle of the forest with only a few houses in sight, and a little building set down at the side of the road for the accommodation of passengers and officials." Steam trains gradually replaced stage coaches for mail and passenger service, although one stage company in Richmond Hill ran until 1897 when electric street car service began there.
