Toronto 'Swastikas' arouse Jews, Toronto Telegram,

In summer 1933 - the same year as Hitler took over Germany - two highly-publicized incidents occurred in Toronto neighbourhoods, demonstrating that the city was not immune to anti-semitism.

The first, reported here, happened at Toronto's east-end beaches. The second, a week or so later, took place at baseball games at Christie Pits.

These (and other) incidents resulted in the Jewish community uniting behind the League for the Defense of Jewish Rights, and its successor, the Canadian Jewish Congress, to fight discrimination.
